Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Patients are usually referred to the ICU from other departments such as surgery or obstetrics & gynecology as a part of their inpatient treatment. In case of emergencies, patients may need intensive care after their surgery or if the patient is suffering of a critical illness that needs intensive care. Our ICU is fully equipped with modern machinery and state-of-the-art technologies for critically-ill and high-risk patients that may require admission and intensive care. It is a vital unit that supports our Surgery Center, in case of emergencies.

Our intensive care physicians are available round the clock to monitor conditions of patients and to offer comprehensive care. From heart monitors to ventilators, our ICU is equipped with all the robust machinery for effective monitoring, life support and critical care of patients. Our intensive care staff is trained to handle critical conditions to facilitate a speedy recovery, following global medical standards to ensure the utmost care and high-level services.

Besides our adults’ ICU, we have a dedicated ICU for pediatric patients, besides our 33-bed NICU level III, all of which provide intensive care to our patients from premature babies or ill newborns to pediatric patients and adults.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Level III (HYPE LINK TO OUR NICU PAGE)

Our 33-bed NICU, one of the largest units in Abu Dhabi, admits over 100 babies a month. Their conditions range from simple cases such as Jaundice to more complex diagnoses. Our NICU has been home to over 1900 neonates since 2015, the youngest being 23 weeks and 5 days of pregnancy only, and weighed as small as 550 grams. The unit is equipped with the latest and most advanced technology necessary for care of sick newborns. It is led by a team of over 10 internationally trained neonatology consultants and specialist, supported by a specialized team of 40 nurses, all of whom are qualified and trained as NICU nurses. There are other surgical and medical sub specialists available to provide system specific care such as in neonatal surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, gastroenterology and cardiology.

In addition to the doctors and nurses, the unit is also supported by a team of speech language therapists, occupational therapists and pediatric physiotherapists for screening, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of premature babies or sick babies.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) (HYPER LINK TO OUR PICU PAGE)

Pediatric intensive care specializes in the care of critically ill children, providing continuous monitoring and the highest level of medical care in a specialized Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This includes intermediary care after a major surgery and covers any form of acute illness. This is provided within the hospital in acute care settings with medical equipment designed just for children, or in a long-term facility for patients with a chronic requirement for mechanical support with breathing.

At Danat Al Emarat Hospital in Abu Dhabi, our PICU team along with our surgeons, pediatricians, nurses and healthcare specialists care for medical issues as well as surgical non-trauma cases. Physical therapists, nutritionists, and pharmacists may also be involved in the child’s care. Some children might stay for a day; others might need to stay much longer. As always, all your questions will be answered by the doctor or nurse caring for your child.

What our patients are saying

With the first visit, we felt that we were in safe hands and then continued consulting Dr Cathy, till the time of delivery. through out the pregnancy, She gave lot of support and guidance for normal delivery. Listens to patient questions, with lot of patience and answers them accordingly. Definitely the best gynecologist out there. During delivery time, she kept tracking every thing through nurses and duty doctors which is highly appreciable. Once again Thanks a lot for the support and guidance for us.
